Should your company have a mobile-optimized website or develop a mobile application?

PhoneAppsHere at the Echo Interaction Group, we are constantly asked “Is it better to have a website that is optimized for mobile browsers or should I develop a mobile application?”

The answer has been elusive for many businesses because the assumption was that consumers would comfortably use websites on their smartphones.  However, that is becoming increasingly not true.  According to Yahoo’s mobile analytics group, Flurry, people are spending 3 hours and 40 minutes per day on their mobile phones.  And web browsing has dropped to a mere 10% of that activity!

“Consumers are savy and they expect a more robust experience on their smartphones beyond what a mobile-optimized website can provide.” said Carlos Carbonnell, CEO of Echo.  “Mobile applications not only provide a more immersive experinece with a comapny’s brand, they provide unique was to interact with the consumer.  It simply is a better experience for mobile users to access content via mobile applications.”
